Karunanidhi: There is no place here for a disabled like me

Chennai, Dec 4 (IBNS): DMK chief M Karunanidhi, 90, on Thursday walked out of the Tamil Nadu assembly, media reports said.

Wheelchair-bound Karunanidhi angrily said: “There is no place here for a disabled like me. I am sad they act in a way to ensure that I leave. I have served as an MLA for 50 years. Today I am unable to serve. I did not expect this kind of disrespect.”

The nonagenarian politician said he had expected special seating arrangement as he was on a wheelchair.

The DMK chief has been using the electrically-powered wheelchair since 2009 after he had undergone spinal surgery.

Elected from Tiruvarur in the 2011 state elections, Karunanidhi was allotted a seat in the second row of the house. Since then, he had largely stayed away from assembly proceedings.
