Kashmir: Mosque in Bandipora damaged due to fire

Srinagar, June 22 (UNI): A mosque was damaged in a devastating fire in north Kashmir district of Bandipora in the wee hours of Saturday.

A source said that the fire broke out in the third floor of a mosque, which was also being used as 'Zila Markaz Tableegi Jamaat' at main market Nowpora, Bandopora at 0400 hrs. However, before the fire tenders could reach the spot, fire spread to entire mosque, mostly made up of wood.

Fire tenders were rushed from different parts of the town and extinguish the leaping flames, clearly visible from a distance.

Locals and police also joined the operation and fire was brought under control after several hours of struggle.

There was no loss of life or injury, the source said adding the cause of fire was being ascertained.
