Kashmir: Two militants killed in Shopian encounter

Srinagar, Apr 6 (UNI) Two militants were killed by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Shopian on Saturday, official sources said.

Meanwhile, mobile internet service in Shopian has been suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours.

They said on a tip off about the presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at Pinjoora in Shopian. However, when the troops were sealing the area and moving towards a particular area in the village, militants hiding there opened fire.

The fire was returned ensuing in an encounter, sources said adding two militants were killed in the encounter in the nearby orchards.

The identity of militants was being ascertained, they said adding the operation was going on when the reports last came in.
