Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 22 (IBNS): The Kerala government ordered a probe into the religious conversion of eight families in Alappuzha, media reports said.

As many as thirty people from eight Scheduled Caste (SC) Christian families underwent conversion on Sunday.

The ceremony was held at a local temple near Kanichanallor.

Sources said, state additional director (ADG) general of police A Hemachandran has been asked to probe the case and submit a detail report.

The families had undergone conversion on their own and the entire event was facilitated by the activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) for the home coming. The conversion function was arranged by VHP leader Prathap G Padikkal.

Reports said that another 150 families in the district had also evinced expression to return to the fold of Hinduism. The ceremony is likely to take place on Christmas day.
