Kiren Rijiju slams Kejriwal for 'character assassination' over officer's appointment

New Delhi, May 17 (IBNS): Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Sunday accused Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of "character assassination" amid a conflict between the Delhi government and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, over promotion of senior bureaucrat Shakuntala Gamlin.
"The act of character assassination being adopted by Kejriwal against one North-East lady IAS officer is condemnable... it is an insult to the people of Northeast," Rijiju told media.

This comes after a fresh conflict took place between the Delhi government and  Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung after senior bureaucrat Shakuntala Gamlin on Saturday took charge as the Acting Chief Secretary of the government.

She took the move despite the government asking her not to do so, reports said.

The Lieutenant Governor on Friday appointed her as the Acting Chief Secretary.

Kejriwal had sent a letter to Jung over Gamlin's appointment and said he has violated the Constitution.

In his letter, Kejriwal had said: "I would strongly request and urge you to remain within the confines of the Constitution and the laws relating to Government of NCT of Delhi. You are holding a Constitutional post. Whatever be the political pressures, you have a duty to uphold the Constitution."

Kejriwal had said he had sought an appointment with President Pranab Mukherjee over the situation in Delhi.

"Seeking an appointment with the President to apprise him of Delhi's situation," Kejriwal had tweeted.

The government alleged that Gamlin had close links with BSES discoms.

Kejriwal had tweeted: "My Q 2 Delhites - Shud a person perceived to be very close to bijli cos be made CS of Del? Shud elected CM have no say in selection?(1/2)."

"All over country, huge nexus betn politicians, officers n cos.In Del, v r trying to break that nexus. That's why whole system opposing(2/2)," he had said.
