Kolkata: Clash between 2 neighbourhoods triggers tension at Charu Market

Kolkata, May 9 (IBNS): Several persons, including two policemen, were injured during a skirmish that has been started since Monday midnight between two localities at Jhaldar Math area on Tollygunge Road under Charu Market Police Station limits in south Kolkata, reports said.

According to reports, over a local issue, residents of Ghoshpara area and its neighbourhood Dompara engaged in a clash with each other at around 11 pm. on Monday.

Police force from nearby Charu Market and Tollygunge Police Stations rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.

Few locals and at least two security personnel were seriously injured in the clash.

Later on Tuesday afternoon, the clash between these two groups made a fresh start at Tollygunge Road near Charu Market area and locals had started pelting stones, bricks and glass-bottles aiming at each other.

A huge police force from all three nearby police stations- Charu Market, Tollygunge and Chetla- have reached the scene and cops are currently restoring to lathicharge to disperse the fighting locals.

A senior official of Kolkata Police told IBNS that Rapid Action Force (RAF) has been deployed in the area to bring the situation under control.

Till the latest update came in, situation is still tense at the area.
