Kolkata/IBNS: A minor fire broke out at the house of Trinamool Congress (TMC) Kamarhati MLA Madan Mitra in south Kolkata's Bhawanipur on Tuesday morning.

After the blaze was noticed inside a room on the ground floor of the county-old building, Mitra and others of his family left the house unhurt.

As many as two fire tenders rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control within half an hour.

A few furniture and several bags and books were reportedly gutted due to the blaze.

Fire and emergency services officials confirmed that no casualty was reported in the incident.

"Primarily, we are suspecting that the fire had started due to a short circuit in a water purifier. Exact cause of the fire will be known following a proper inquiry," a fire official engaged in the firefighting operation at the location told IBNS.
