Kolkata, Oct 20 (IBNS): Taking a step forward in making West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's dream of turning Kolkata into London, South Dumdum Municipality has installed "Kolkata Times Zone"- a mini replica of London's clock tower Big Ben- at Lake Town area in Kolkata, in the Durga Puja week.

The 135 feet structure has been installed at the junction of Lake Town and the VIP Road.

The foundation stone of the project was laid by local TMC MLA Sujit Bose on Dec 1 last year the project of Rs. 1.3 crore was constructed in less than 10 months.

Facing at four cardinal directions, four giant clocks, made by an Anglo Swiss clock manufacturer- T R Clock Company, are installed at the top of the tower.

Talking about the initiative, South Dum Dum Municipality's chairman-in-council Mriganka Bhattacharya told IBNS: "Our chief minister Mamata Banerjee has a dream to turn Kolkata into London. To take forward her dream, we have built this 135 feet clock-tower which replicates London's Big Ben, which height is nearly 315 feet. We have installed the entire tower at a 900 sq feet plot. We also used LED lights as the tower becomes brighter at night and it will also save electricity. This mini Big Ben would surely increase the beauty of Lake Town and become a must-to-visit spot in Kolkata."
