Kolkata: Ambuja Neotia Group Chairman Harshvardhan Neotia on Tuesday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) following a summons by the central agency, media reports said.

As he reached ED's office in Kolkata’s CGO complex, Neotia told the reporters that he had been summoned by the probe agency, but refrained from disclosing the specific case for which he was called to testify.

He, however, assured that he would reveal further details when he left ED’s office

Reports indicate that it is still unclear for which case Neotia was summoned.

Neotia was last summoned by the federal financial fraud investigation agency in 2015 in connection with the Sharada Ponzi scam.

Born and brought up in Kolkata, Harsh Neotia has spearheaded numerous industrial projects in West Bengal.  His company Ambuja Neotia Group has developed real estate projects in West Bengal.

He is the founder of one of the first joint sector companies in India, “Bengal Ambuja Housing Development Limited” in partnership with the Government of West Bengal.

Neotia is also a member of the board of Governors of IIM Calcutta.

It is worth noting that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is currently investigating several cases of corruption, including cattle smuggling, drug trafficking, teachers’ recruitment, and coal smuggling in West Bengal.

Further, the recent public distribution scam in West Bengal, probed by ED, has garnered nationwide attention.

The ED's primary task is to trace the financial transactions involved in these alleged scams.

ED’s summons to Neotia amid the unravelling of these corruption cases has sparked various discussions and speculations in different quarters.
