Kolkata: Mamata's Bangladesh entourage member arrested
Kolkata, Feb 22 (IBNS): The Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport Police Station on Sunday arrested Kolkata- based buisnessman Shibaji Panja, who had accompanied West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee to Bangladesh, here.
The Delhi Police had issued a look out circular (LOC) against Shibaji Panja on Feb 19 in connection with a financial crime in Delhi and then he was in Bangladesh as a team member of the chief minister who visited Bangladesh last week.
Mamata Banerjee and her team came from Bangladesh last night and the immigration department of NSCBI airport detained Shibaji Panja at the Kolkata airport.
After some questioning, he was handed over to NSCBI airport police station under Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate and was arrested immediately.
After being arrested, he complained of illness and was admitted to Bidhannagar Sub Division Hospital.
The police will produce Shibaji Panja to the Barrackpore court later.
Neither the government officials nor the police officers have commented on the matter yet.
Panja was a member of the TMC ruled government's task force on information and culture and one of the convenors of Kolkata International Film Festival.He is also the joint secretary of West Bengal Sports Council. He was also the team member of Mamata Banerjee's Singapore trip last year.
