Kolkata Police detains son of BJP Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly after car crash

Kolkata: Akash Mukherjee, the son of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP and actress Roopa Ganguly, was detained by Kolkata Police after his car crashed near the Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC) on Friday night, police said.

Reports said Akash Mukherjee was detained after he lost control of his sedan and crashed into a wall near RCGC  on Golf Garden Road near Tollygunge under Jadavpur Police Station area.

Police started a probe to find out if Akash was drunk while driving the car. The car was registered in the name of Roopa Ganguly, said reports.

While no casualty was reported, Akash received minor injuries, said sources.

Roopa Ganguly, who was a popular actress in Bengali cinema and had earned national acclaim essaying the role of Draupadi in BR Chopra's Mahabharat in small screen, was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2015.
