Kolkata: Presidency University remains adamant on its decision, gherao lifted after 22 hours

Kolkata, Aug 6 (IBNS): After nearly 22 hours, protesting students of Presidency University withdrew their gherao of Registrar and other officials on Saturday afternoon.

Agitating against alleged opacity in undergraduate and postgraduate level admission process, a section of students had gheraoed several officials, including the Registrar and Controller of Exams, of Kolkata's iconic Presidency University since Friday 5 pm.

Students demanded for a meeting to discuss the admission process, merit list publication and counseling.

"There are lack of transparency in the admission process and only two days have been set for counselling, which would trouble the applicants," one of the protesting students told IBNS.

The university authority stayed rigid over its status and the protesters finally lifted their gherao at around 3 pm.

However, both the Presidency University authority and West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB), which conducts university's admission test, confirmed that there was no opacity in admission process.
