Kolkata, July 18 (IBNS): A 40-year-old woman was accused of cutting off her 20-year-old husband's ears at gunpoint during a dispute in north Kolkata's Narkeldanga area on Tuesday, reports said.

According to reports, the man, Md. Tanvir, alleged that his wife, Mumtaz Bibi, and her sisters had chopped off his two ears at gunpoint following an overnight physical torture at her place.

"After slashing my ears, my wife and her sisters fled from their house and hours later, locals rescued me," Tanvir told IBNS.

The man was rushed to Nil Ratan Sarkar (NRS) Medical College and Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

Two years ago, Tanvir got married to his 20-year older neighbour, Mumtaz, and the man alleged that since after then Mumtaz started torturing and assaulting him.

Tanvir claimed that Mumtaz and her relatives made him captive in the house for four days. He said he somehow managed to escape to Mallikpur.

"On Monday, my wife and her sisters picked me up from Mallikpur and after a night-long torture, Mumtaz cut off my ears at gunpoint on Tuesday early morning," Md. Tanvir said.

Tanvir's family members lodged a complaint with Narkeldanga Police Station on Tuesday and police have initiated a probe into the matter.

Mumtaz Bibi and other accused in the case are still absconding.
