Left clinches victory in Siliguri

Kolkata, Oct 7 (IBNS): Left Front performed strongly in the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad elections on Thursday by clinching it as the result of the poll was declared on Wednesday.

Winning six of the nine seats of Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad, Left Front continued their winning performance as it had earlier captured  Siliguri Municipal Corporation this year.

TMC won three seats.

CPI-M won 173 seats, while TMC bagged 156 seats in the  gram panchayat.

Out of the remaining,  Congress clinched  61, BJP-22,  CPI grabbed two, RSP took away four, Forward Bloc won eight, JMM one, Independents 34.

The  CPI-M won 31 seats out of the 66 seats in the Panchayat Samity and TMC took away 26 seats while the Congress managed six seats, independents grabbed  two and BJP one.
