Life crippled in Jammu by shutdown

| | Jul 19, 2014, at 10:46 pm
Jammu, July 19 (IBNS) Normal life in Jammu in Jammu and Kashmir was crippled on Saturday by a shutdown to protest against Friday’s clashes in Baltal base camp of the Hindu pilgrimage Amarnath Yatra.

Reports said that shops remained closed in Jammu city and public transport remained off the road. While as private transport, government offices, banks and post offices functioned normally.

The shutdown call was given by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and supported by Vishva Hindu Parishad to protest against the clashes in Baltal base camp following a scuffle between a local pony operator and a cook on Friday leaving as many as 24 people hurt.

It is pertinent to mention here on Friday that clashes broke out in Baltal after paramilitary CRPF men had to fire teargas shells to control a mob consisting of tent owners, pony owners, traders and labourers, who were protesting against the stabbing of a local pony owner.
