Indian PM Narendra Modi on Friday (July 5, 2024) congratulated Labour Party leader Keir Starmer after his political outfit registered a landslide victory in the general poll and said he is looking forward to establishing constructive collaboration with him to further strengthen the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in all areas.

"Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to @Keir_Starmer on the remarkable victory in the UK general elections. I look forward to our positive and constructive collaboration to further strengthen the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in all areas, fostering mutual growth and prosperity," Modi posted on X.

Wishing outgoing PM Rishi Sunak, Modi lauded him for his admirable leadership.

"Thank you @RishiSunak for your admirable leadership of the UK, and your active contribution to deepen the ties between India and the UK during your term in office. Best wishes to you and your family for the future," he said.

Keir Starmer guided the Labour Party to a landslide victory in the British polls, routing the 14-year-old Conservative party government.

Labour Party registered victory in 412 seats and the Conservatives won 121.

Outgoing PM Rishi Sunak earlier in the day accepted responsibility for the party's poor show in the polls.

Conceding defeat, Sunak said: "The Labour Party has won this general election."

"Today, power will change hands in a peaceful and orderly manner, with goodwill on all sides. That is something that should give us all confidence in our country's stability and future," he said in his first address to supporters after the loss.

"I am sorry. I take responsibility for the loss," he said.
