Kolkata, Dec 20 (IBNS): The director of state-run Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial (SSKM) hospital Pradip Maitra on Saturday announced that the health condition of West Bengal Transport and Sports Madan Mitra, who has been arrested in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam, was stable.

After reaching Alipur Central Jail, Madan Mitra complained of chest pain and the jail authorities sent him to SSKM hospital immediately and he was admitted in the cardiology department on Friday night. After some hours, he was shifted to the VVIP cabin of Woodburn unit.

The director of SSKM, Pradip Maitra said, "Madan Mitra is treated under the observation of cardiologist Shibananda Dutta. Some medical tests have been done. Not such critical diseases have been diagnosed. He is suffering from sleep apnea (a type of sleep disorder)."

Accepting the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)'s appeal and rejecting his bail plea, the Alipur court here on Friday sent  Madan Mitra to judicial custody till Jan 2.

After 3 days in CBI custody, Madan Gopal Mitra was produced before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) of Alipur Court Haradhan Mukherjee.

The lawyer of Madan Mitra pleaded for their clients' bail.

After a marathon 5 hours of questioning, the CBI had arrested Madan Mitra  on Dec 12 in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam.
