Maharashtra CM meets Anna Hazare to request to end fast

Mumbai/Ahmednagar, Feb 5 (IBNS) : Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday met social activist Anna Hazare who is on a hunger strike in his native Ralegan Siddhi village in Ahmednagar demanding appointment of Lok Pal,  anti-corruption watchdog,  at the centre and the state, reports said.

According to media reports, Fadvnavis requested the veteran activist to withdraw his hunger strike, which entered the seventh day.

Hazare is protesting "non-fulfilment" of assurances by the Centre and the Maharashtra government on the appointment of Lokpal and passage of the Lokayukta Act in the state.

Fadvnavis' visit to the remote village came after  Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan and senior Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil made a futile attempt to persuade Hazare to end the fast on Sunday.

On Sunday, Siv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray had pledged support to Hazare's fight against corruption. "Anna should give up his fast and lead an agitation over his demands, and I assure Shiv Sena's support wherever possible," the Sena chief had said.
