Maharashtra: Forty-two families evacuated as gallery of twin building crashes in Thane

Thane, Jun 1 (UNI) As many as 42 families of a twin building in Wagle Estate locality were evacuated after a part of its gallery crashed early Saturday morning, fire services said.

According to Thane City fire service officer Niteen Shinde, no casualty was reported in the accident which took place at 0055 hrs this morning.

He said the renovation work in Asha-Usha was in progress when a part of the gallery of the upper floor crashed.

Chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the TMC Santosh Kadam said immediately upon getting the message, the firemen and the staff of the cell rushed and rescued the occupants and also evacuated those from the buildings.

The gallery portion on the top floor crashed on the floors below in the G plus three-storied building, he said.

The building was around 25-year-old and had undergone audit just recently and was being repaired for certain defects and load, it was stated.
