Maharashtra: Watchman gets jail for raping teenager

Thane, May 4 (UNI) A local court has sentenced a 42-year-old man to ten years imprisonment on charge of raping a teenager.

In her order, the District Judge S A Sinha on Friday, also fined the accused Rahim Abdul Mannan Shaikh, a watchman by profession, a sum of Rs 5,000.

The accused was convicted for the offences punishable under sections 376, 354A and 506 of the IPC and handed in different terms of imprisonment all to run concurrently.

In her submission appearing for the prosecution, APP Ujjwala Moholkar told the court that the accused and the victim were neighbours in the residential locality of Lal Bahadur Shashtri Nagar of Uttan.

On August 27,2018, in the evening the victim, along with her younger brother, had gone to the house of the accused for playing with a cat there. Once inside the house, the accused sent the boy out on the pretext of buying something and meanwhile, he raped the girl and threatened her not to disclose it.

Upon seeing the children's grandmother who had come in search of them, the accused released the girl who went home and narrated the entire episode to her following which a complaint was filed against the accused with the Uttan Sagri police station.

Taking a serious view of the incident, the judge held that the prosecution had sucessfuly proved the charges against the accused who needs to be jailed and convicted and sentenced him.
