Kiev, July 17 (IBNS): A Malaysian passenger airliner with 295 people onboard crashed in Ukraine on Thursday amid fears that it was shot down, reports said.
The flight was on its way from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

All the 280 passengers and 15 crew members are feared dead.

"Malaysia Airlines has lost contact of MH17 from Amsterdam. The last known position was over Ukrainian airspace," the Malaysian Airlines tweeted.

Later, the airlines stated: "Malaysia Airlines confirms it received notification from Ukrainian ATC that it had lost contact with flight MH17 at 1415 (GMT) at 30km from Tamak waypoint, approximately 50km from the Russia-Ukraine border."

"Flight MH17 operated on a Boeing 777 departed Amsterdam at 12.15pm (Amsterdam local time) and was estimated to arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 6.10 am (Malaysia local time) the next day," the statement confirmed.

"The flight was carrying 280 passengers and 15 crew onboard," it said.

However, both the Ukrainian government and rebels have denied shooting it down in the region close to the Russian border, a BBC report said.

This comes months after  a Malaysia Airlines flight MH 370, which was carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members, went missing since Mar 8.
