Mamata Banerjee announces Bardhaman Paschim as new district of WB

Asansol, Apr 7 (IBNS): After Jhargram, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced yet another new district of the state and this time it is Bardhaman Paschim, bifurcating Bardhaman, on Friday, media reports.

Asansol and Durgapur now falls into the newly announced district-Bardhaman Paschim.

Referring to Friday's date as the district's birthday, the CM said: "I had promised you earlier that Asansol will get a new district before Bengali New Year. Now people would not have to go to Bardhaman for administrative works."

Bardhaman Paschim would have two blocks and 16 police stations.
