Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Friday announced the formation of Vidhan Parishad or State Legislative Council in West Bengal.

Banerjee made the comment during the announcement of her party Trinamool Congress' candidate list.

The Chief Minister announced in the backdrop of several of her sitting MLAs including state Finance Minister Amit Mitra have not been given tickets to contest polls.

Banerjee is expected to accommodate her senior party members in the Vidhan Parishad if she is voted back to power.

Vidhan Parishad, the upper house of the state assembly, is presently established in six Indian states but not West Bengal.

Vidhan Parishad is parallel to the Rajya Sabha, which is the upper house of Parliament.

A member of the legislative council may not be an MP or MLA at the same time.
