Mamata Banerjee convenes party meet on Oct 15

Kolkata, Oct 13 (UNI): Trinamool Congress supremo and WB Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has convened a meeting of all block presidents, Panchayat Samiti chiefs and Zilla Sabhadipatis on Oct 15.

TMC Youth Congress president and MP Abhisek Banerjee, Banerjee's political advisor Prashant Kishore and other senior leaders are also expected to attend the meeting to be held at the party headquarters here.

According to political observers, the meeting aims to strengthen the party organisation ahead of the 2021 assembly elections as well as discuss strategies for the same.

The chief minister had earlier too met all party MLAs at the Trinamool Bhavan after the State Assembly Session ended and asked each legislator to submit names of four-party workers from each constituency.

Suggestions of Prashant Kishore and his team for regaining lost ground would also be discussed in Tuesday's meeting, according to local media reports.

Efforts needed for plugging loopholes both within the party and the government would be discussed.

On July 29 the TMC had launched 'Didi k bolo' platform, which party insiders said, helped immensely in reaching out to the masses.

Incidentally, the ruling party had lost much political ground to a burgeoning BJP in the state, as reflected in this year's parliamentary elections.

Trinamool's strength slumped to 22 seats from 34, while the saffron party's surged to 18 from two seats five years ago.

The party has also been wracked by desertion, including that of some well-known faces. They all walked into the rival BJP camp.

With the BJP breathing down its neck and sporadic political skirmishes keeping West Bengal on the boil, Banerjee is only too keen to have a firm grip on the party and evolve foolproof strategies.
