Mamata Banerjee inaugurates Kolkata International Film Festival

Kolkata, Nov 11 (IBNS): Madness and mood of celebration around films returned to Kolkata as the Chief Minister of West Bengal inaugurated the 22nd edition of Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) on Friday.

The star studded inauguration event witnessed the presence of actors including Amitabh BachchShah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Sanjay Dutt, Parineeti Chopraan, Jaya Bachchan and others from the Bengali film industry.

Speaking at the event, Banerjee said: "Cinema speaks a language that no other medium can."

"Nowhere in the world so many people come together for a film festival. We show films in every neighourhood," she said at the Netaji Indoor Stadium.

“I extend my heartiest greetings to all delegates present here today. This is a festival of the people, by the people, for the people," she said welcoming guests and other cinema lovers.

During the week-long festival, 155 films from 65 countries will be screened at 105 screens across 13 venues in the city.
