New Delhi, Mar 28 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday met Congress leader Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi and discussed measures to stop Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from coming to power in 2019.

Banerjee, who is in Delhi since Tuesday, said that the Congress should help the 'anti-BJP' front.

Speaking to reporters here, she said: "Whenever I come to Delhi, I meet Sonia Gandhiji. We share a very good relationship with Sonia Gandhi... She is a very senior leader of our country. We also held political talks. I suggested her that in 2019 elections, there should be one-is-to-one fight to eradicate BJP. I want Congress to win the Karnataka elections, Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav should take over Uttar Pradesh and Lalu Prasad must win in Bihar.

She also gained support from rebel BJP leaders Yashwant Sinha and Shatrughan Sinha.

Yashwant Sinha hailed Banerjee's leadership in saving the country from present scenario.

“Mamata is our old Cabinet colleague. Her personality is known to everyone. The role she has taken to save the country is appreciable. In future also, we will support her," said Sinha.

Meanwhile, the BJP said she went to Delhi with dream of becoming the Prime Minister of the country.

Banerjee  also held discussions with Arun Shourie, a former Union minister in the NDA government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
