Mamata orders action against MLA for meeting Mukul Roy

Kolkata, Mar 10 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has directed Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim to start disciplinary action against a party legislator over his meeting with BJP leader Mukul Roy on Friday.

According to reports, Mukul Roy met with TMC MLA Sabyasachi Dutta at the latter's home and was there for over two hours.

The meeting has led to speculation that Dutta might join the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Hakim has been asked by Banerjee to summon a meeting of all councillors of the Salt Lake area on Sunday and consider action against Dutta.

However, it is not clear if Dutta is also expected to attend the meeting.

"BJP is an all India party. It has all the money but no leaders. So they are going around with a begging bowl, asking everyone, will you be our candidate. The current visit is supposed to have been a personal one. Let's see," Firhad Hakim was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Even former Kolkata mayor and minister Sovan Chatterjee and his "friend" Baisakhi Banerjee are believed to be in talks with various political parties ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

However, both Roy and Dutta have told media that it was a courtesy visit on Sunday.
