Mamata remembers Norgay
Kolkata, May 29 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday remembered Nepalese Indian mountaineer Tenzing Norgay as he had reached the summit of Mount Everest on this date.
"Today is the birthday of Tenzing Norgay. He also reached the summit of Mt Everest on this day in 1953. We salute his memory," she tweeted.
Norgay was one of the first two individuals known to reach the summit of Mount Everest, which he accomplished with Edmund Hillary on May 29, 1953.
He died in 1986 in Darjeeling.
