Mamata supports Kejriwal's protest against Delhi LG, says 'elected CM must get due respect'

Kolkata/New Delhi, Jun 13 (IBNS): Supporting her Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal's sit-in protest against Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said an "elected CM must get due respect."

Giving no break to the political drama in the national capital, several Delhi ministers along with Kejriwal are continuing their protests outside Baijal's office for the third consecutive day to pressurise the LG to fulfill Delhi government's demands, media reports said.

The AAP leaders are pressing the LG to direct the bureaucrats to join works as they had allegedly gone on to an unofficial strike.

Taking Kejriwal's side in the politically-fueled matter, Banerjee tweeted on Wednesday evening to say, "@ArvindKejriwal, CM of Delhi is sitting in a dharna in LG’s office for the last few days in the capital city of the country. Elected CM must get due respect. May I appeal to the Govt of India and @LtGovDelhi to resolve the problem immediately so that people do not suffer."

The Delhi ministers have also alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is using Baijal and bureaucrats to make Kejriwal unable to perform his duties.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Kejriwal said: "Aren’t IAS officers merely tools being used by Modi govt to scuttle good work being done by Del govt? Is it possible for IAS officers to return to work without green signal from PMO?"

In a separate tweet, the Delhi CM said: "Central govt using IAS officers as a tool to provoke rebellion against an elected govt"

Countering the Delhi ministers' protests, several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmakers resorted to a sit-in protest at the state secretariat in the national capital on Wednesday itself.

To mark the protest, the BJP MLAs have sat down at the Chief Minister's waiting room.

The move is aimed at forcing the ministers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to stop their protests and get back to work.

The Delhi BJP has also alleged that Kejriwal-led AAP government is doing a drama to divert people's attention from water and electricity issues in the national capital.
