A 32-year-old man was stabbed to death by his nephew at a slaughterhouse in downtown Srinagar on Sunday, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Ganie, a butcher of the Hafta Yarbal Safakadal area.

Police said, “Preliminary investigation reveals that an altercation took place near the victim’s residence in a slaughterhouse, between one butcher identified as Irfan Ahmad Ganie and his uncle Nisar Ahmad Ganie. The deceased Fayaz Ahmad intervened in this altercation and during the ensuing scuffle Irfan stabbed the victim leading to his death”.

He was declared dead on arrival at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital in Srinagar.

Acting swiftly, police arrested the accused Irfan, who is also the nephew of the victim within hours after the incident.

A case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Safakadal.
