Manipur MLA arrested by NIA in missing arms case

Imphal, Aug 25 (IBNS) :The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Manipur MLA Yamthung Haokip from Imphal in connection with the missing arms case in which he had allegedly distributed police pistols to different terrorist groups, media reports said.

Haokip, a Congress MLA from Saikul Assembly constituency, was arrested on Friday.

According to reports, a total of 56 pistols and 58 magazines were found missing from the armoury of the second battalion of the Manipur police between 2016 and early 2017.

Haokip was remanded to judicial custody  after being produced before an NIA Special Judge in Imphal. He has been admitted to a Government hospital on court order.

The NIA has recovered 14 weapons till now and an investigation is going on.
