Manipur police commandos, sent as reinforcement after cop shot dead, get injured in ambush

Imphal/IBNS: A team of Manipur Police commandos sent to a border town as reinforcement after a senior police officer was shot dead on Tuesday morning were ambushed by suspected insurgents on their way, media reports said.

Several commandos received grave injuries in the ambush that happened between Sinam and Saibol, 10 km short of Tengnoupal district.

The senior officer, Chingtham Anand, was shot dead in the India-Myanmar border trading town of Moreh when he was overseeing the construction of a helipad, which is about 115 km from the state capital Imphal.

Troops of the Assam Rifles rushed to the ambush site and rescued the police commandos, said reports.

The injured troopers have been taken to hospital.
