Manmohan to move SC against CBI court's summons
New Delhi, Mar 20(IBNS) Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to move the Supreme Court next week to quash the special CBI court order for his appearance on April 8 in connection with a coal scam case.
Reports said former law minister Kapil Sibal and noted criminal lawyer KTS Tulsi will represent Singh in the apex court.
On March 11, the special CBI court had summoned Singh in connection with the case of allocation of Odisha's Talabira coal blocks in 2005 to Hindalco.
Five other people, including industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla and the former coal secretary PC Parakh have also been summoned.
Asking for a trial under charges of "criminal conspiracy and breach of trust," the special CBI court in its 75-page order held that the Prime Minister's office showed "undue interest" after a meeting between Singh and KM Birla.
The special prosecutor telling the CBI court that "there was no prosecutable evidence against Singh."
Singh said in any "fair trial" he will be able to establish his "total innocence."
