Meghalaya woman alleges racial harassment in Delhi; Kiren Rijiju responds

| @indiablooms | Oct 07, 2025, at 05:33 pm

A woman from Meghalaya has shared a video online alleging that she faced racial harassment in New Delhi due to her appearance.

In the video, she described an incident in Kamla Nagar where a group of men on a scooter mocked her by saying “Ching Chong.” She said she did not respond and later went to a Tibetan store to calm herself.

She recounted another incident on the same day while travelling on the metro, when a person allegedly called her “Ching Chong China.”

“I’ve been to other countries, but they never made me feel like I don’t belong there. Today, in my own country, fellow Indians made me feel like I don’t belong here,” she said in the video. She added that her only “mistake” was being born in India and looking different from the majority population.

The video drew the attention of Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, who urged her to report such incidents to the police. Sharing the video on Instagram, he wrote: “Dear sister, sadly such loony people do exist. Next time, capture their photos and report to Delhi Police NE Cell. The government has created a Special Police Unit to take action against any atrocity or unlawful act against North East people. No one should disrespect people from other States in India. Treat all human beings as equals!
