New Delhi, Feb 25 (IBNS): Journalist Priya Ramani, who was sued by former Union Minister MJ Akbar over her allegations of sexual harassment in the wake of the #MeToo movement, was granted bail by a Delhi court on Monday, media reports said.

Ramani, who will have to appear before the court next on Apr 10, has been granted bail on a surety of Rs. 10,000.

She appeared before the Patiala House Court for the first time on Monday since she was summoned.

With the #MeToo campaign gaining momentum in India last year, several women journalists had levelled charges of sexual harassment against Akbar, who is a former journalist.

Ramani was the first among them to raise her voice directly against Akbar, who had to resign as the Junior Foreign Minister over the allegations.

Akbar had termed the allegations as "false and fabricated".

The #MeToo movement in India virtually started after allegations of former actress Tanushree Dutta against veteran actor Nana Patekar.

Dutta had accused Patekar of harassing her on the sets of a film 10 years ago.
