MIB advises TV channels not to do live telecast of counter terrorism ops by security forces

New Delhi, Mar 20 (IBNS): Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued an advisory to all TV channels not to telecast live coverage of counter terrorism operations by the security forces, in the public interest and national security to safeguard innocent lives and to ensure that no operations-linked information reaches the terrorists as well as their handlers.
Some TV Channels have covered live ongoing anti-terrorist operations on Friday .
 
It says that the media coverage may be restricted to periodic briefing by an earmarked official till the operation concludes. 
 
"Clauses 5.9 and 8.1 of the Uplinking guidelines and Clauses 5.8 and 6.1 of the downlinking Guidelines as well as applicable provisions of the Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 and Rules may be referred in this regard," the government statement said.
 
"It may be noted that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has already issued advisories to all TV channels on 27th November, 2008, 3rd December, 2008 and 20th November, 2009 in Public interest and in the interest of National Security not to focus on or report the location, strength, movement, strategy and other related operations being followed by the security forces engaging with the terrorist so as to avoid any adverse impact on rescue operations," it said.
