Militant killed in J&K

Srinagar, May 8 (IBNS): The body of a militant, who was hurt during a brief firefight with armed forces in south Kashmir's Tral on Tuesday night was recovered, a police official said on Thursday.

The body of Jaish-e-Mohammad militant identified by the police as Syed Mawia was recovered from an orchard in Panzoo.

According to police sources, after receiving inputs about the movement of militants, army from 3 RR and police jointly laid an ambush in a paddy field between Amirabad and Naibug on Tuesday evening.

 "Late in the evening, the ambush team reported some movement. The team asked them to stop and reveal their identity but the militants retaliated with heavy fire, ensuing an encounter," the official said. 

However, the militants taking advantage of darkness and vegetation managed to escape. 

Following the encounter the ambush team detected blood stain marks on the trails of the fleeing militants. 

On Wednesday morning, police recovered an AK 47 rifle near the encounter site believed to belong to the injured militant.
