Militants attacks Assam Rifles' troop in Manipur

Guwahati, Dec 3 (IBNS): Militants on Saturday attacked a convoy of Assam Rifles troopers at a remote area in Manipur, officials said on Sunday. 

However, there were no reports of any casualty.

A top official of Assam Rifles said that, the militants attacked on the Assam Rifles troops who were on their way to conduct a medical camp at Aishi village in Kamjong district.

"The militants had attacked on the troop of D Coy 31 Assam Rifles led by Major Jagannathan by exploding three Improvised Explosive Device (IED). When the troop reached the village three IED were exploded," the Assam Rifles official said.

The militants also fired several rounds of gun shots and the Assam Rifles team too retaliated.

There was an exchange of bullets for an hour.

Following the militants attack, top officials of Assam Rifles and police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.

They launched massive operation against the attackers.

The insurgency hit north eastern Indian state witnessed several militant attacks upon security forces in the past.
