Aizawl: Mizoram's power landscape has received a significant boost with 15 small hydro-electric power projects contributing to a substantial 38.55 megawatts of power generation, State’s Power and Electricity Minister F. Rodingliana said.

Responding to queries from Opposition member Ramthanmawia of the Mizo National Front (MNF), the minister highlighted ongoing efforts, including repairs to existing projects and endeavours to expand power generation capacities.

Rodingliana underscored state government's proactive stance in bolstering power generation capabilities, citing progress on major projects like the Tlawng Hydro-electric Power Project, where survey and investigation phases have been completed, with the detailed project report slated for completion within 2024.

Detailed project reports have been finalized for the Tuivai HEP and Tuirini Small HEP projects, reflecting the government's commitment to diversify energy sources. Efforts are underway to secure funding allocations for these ventures, he said.

The minister also spoke about plans for four solar projects with a combined capacity of 45 megawatts, including the Grid-Connected SPV Power Plant near Thenzawl in central Mizoram's Serchhip district, underscoring Mizoram's stride towards renewable energy integration.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma intervened during the discussion, highlighting the government's balanced approach towards power generation.

While prioritizing self-sufficiency, he reassured that environmental conservation remains paramount, with cautious consideration given to the potential ecological impacts of large-scale dam construction.
