Hyderabad: Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for abrogating Article 370, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said the government has fulfilled his predecessor Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's dream of "United India".

Speaking at the passing out parade of IPS probationers here, Shah said, "Sardar Patel joined 630 provinces with India but Article 370 had prevented the unification of Jammu and Kashmir and the rest of the country.

PM Modi scrapped Article 370 in the parliament and fulfilled Sardar Patel's dream of United India."

Shah said this at a time several opposition leaders including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi are visiting Jammu and Kashmir days after the Centre scrapped Article 370 and also Article 35A to withdraw the special status of the valley.

Along with the withdrawal of the special status, the Centre on August 5 bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Addressing the IPS probationers, the Home Minister said, "A wealthy, educated and safe India should be our goal. We should not work for one person but the entire nation. Your work has started from today."
