Modi leaves for Siachen Glacier to celebrate Diwali with soldiers
New Delhi/Srinagar, Oct 23 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday left for Siachen Glacier to celebrate Diwali with soldiers.
Ahead of his journey, Modi tweeted: "Friends, I am leaving for Siachen Glacier. Its my good fortune that I will be able to spend time with our brave soldiers on this special day."
Later in the afternoon, Modi will visit Srinagar to celebrate Diwali with flood effected families.
Sources told IBNS that Modi will reach Srinagar at 1:30 pm.
He will meet flood effected families at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar.
Modi is also expected to announce a special relief package for the Kashmiri people.
Ahead of the PM's visit, security have been put on high alert to thwart any type of militant activity .
Meanwhile, Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani called for a one day strike.
