Modi stresses on skill development in his Teachers' Day address
New Delhi, Sept 5 (IBNS): This year it was not a usual celebration of Teachers' Day in schools as India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself added the fervour by addressing students and teachers across the nation on Friday from Manekshaw Auditorium in the capital, with a full house in attendance.
In his short but focussed speech, Modi stressed on skill development among the students.
"We have created a separate Ministry for skill development," the PM said while also highlighting the need for convenient education among girls.
"A girl child must get education facilities close to her home. Quality of education is also important," he said.
He said the world needs good teachers adding that a country like India can even export teachers.
"What is the reason why a lot of people do not want to become teachers. We must think about this. The world needs good teachers," Modi said.
"India is a youthful nation. Can't we think of exporting good teachers? Why can't our children think- I want to be a good teacher," asked the PM.
Remembering the second President of India, academic philosopher Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Modi said: "Dr. Radhakrishnan did not celebrate his own birthday. He celebrated a day for teachers."
He also reiterated his concern of clean toilet facilities for girl students in school.
Modi said, "As students I am sure you have several dreams. If you are determined to move ahead nothing can stop you. Our youth are talented."
The PM asked students to aspire to become the leader of the country.
"India is a democracy and anybody can become the PM. Yes, when you are taking oath as the PM do call me for the ceremony."
"Start preparing for 2024 elections...and it also means till then I do not have any threat," said the 100-day old PM.
Recalling his recent visit to the ‘Land of Rising Sun’, japan, PM said, “I visited a primary school in Japan, there is almost no teaching there but 100% learning. A Japanese teacher told me that students and teachers in his school clean toilets. In Japan, they give importance to learning. And I saw parents do not drop their children to school.”
Modi also emphasized on the need to enjoy childhood experiences which comes with mischievous actions and added: "Can there be any child who does not play mischief? Childhood experiences are very important."
He also took the occasion to speak a few words towards the teachers as well.
According the the PM it is the duty of teachers to get the best out of their students and not to discriminate among the same.
Ending his interaction, Modi once again managed to win hearts by saying:"Keep the child in you alive. Keep smiling and playing."
