Monsoon session of Parliament begins today; Congress-TDP to move no-confidence motion against government

New Delhi, July 18 (IBNS): The Congress and the Telegu Desam Party (TDP) are set to move a no-confidence motion against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government in the Lok Sabha (lower house) as the monsoon session of the parliament began on Wednesday, media reports said.

The BJP, which has the majority in the house along with its allies, said it is ready for the motion.

With 314 members in the lower house of Parliament, the no-trust motion is not a threat to the BJP-led NDA government since the number is more than the half-way mark (272).

Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP is set to bring the no-confidence motion, demanding a special status for Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing media on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he hoped the parliament will function in the monsoon session and important issues will be taken up.
