Mukul Roy prevented from entering Nandigram by TMC supporters
On Mar 14 in 2007, police fired over demonstrating villagers of 'Bhumi Uchhed Protirodh Committee' which killed at least 14 people.
The Trinamool Congress arranged a programme in the village on Saturday as it observed the Nandigram Divas (Day). Top TMC leaders like Partha Chatterjee, Firhad Hakim, Subhendu Adhikary and Sisir Adhikary were present at the event.
Roy was going to Nandigram via Chanditala village to remember the day separately. After getting the news, local TMC supporters blocked the entry points to the village, reports said.
As Roy heard about road blockades, he decided to change his route. When he was trying to enter into Nandigram via Khejuri village, supporters stopped his convoy on Tekhali bridge.
Roy and his companions, TMC MLAs Shiuli Saha and Shilbhadra Dutta, requested supporters to unblock the roads, but the supporters did not follow the instructions.
Supporters also shouted 'Go back Mukul' slogan.
"I am the first person who came to this village after the firing incident had occurred. In 2007, the CPI-M had prevented me and in 2015, my party prevented me from entering the village. It is a repeat of history. Nobody can stifle the voice of democracy," Roy said.
After returning Kolkata, he paid tribute to the victims of Nandigram firing by lighting candles under the Gandhi's statue.
