Mumbai, July 17 (IBNS): The death toll in the Mumbai building collapse incident touched 14 as rescue workers worked through the night to pull out those trapped under the debris, media reports said on Wednesday.

Several people are feared to be trapped under the debris.

Nine people including two children have been rescued so far.

Three teams of the National Disaster Response Force, joined by residents of the south Mumbai neighbourhood are working to rescue the people trapped under the debris.

The 100-year-old building in congested Dongri area collapsed at around 11:40 pm on Tuesday.

"Around 15 families were residing there," Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the loss of lives in the tragedy.

"Collapse of a building in Mumbai’s Dongri is anguishing. My condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. I hope the injured recover soon. Maharashtra Government, NDRF and local authorities are working on rescue operations & assisting those in need: PM @narendramodi," PMO India tweeted.
