Mumbai offshore gas leak: ONGC evacuates 48 workers
Mumbai, July 20 (IBNS): A total of 48 personnel were evacuated from the Bombay High Oil Rig North platform in Mumbai after gas flow was observed from the outermost casing annulus on Saturday, the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) said in a statement.
The incident happened while workers of the state owned ONGC were drilling Rig Sagar Uday.
The operations were shut down following the gas leak.
"The Operation has been stopped for safety reasons. Forty eight persons have been evacuated to nearby installations," the ONGC said in a statement.
"Five vessels including two Multi Support Vessels (MSVs) are on the location for any immediate support," it said.
The Crisis Management Team (CMT) of ONGC reached the site soon after the incident and efforts are in progress to plug the leak.
