Mumbai: Tamils protest outside Salman's residence over Rajpaksha support
Mumbai, Jab 4 (IBNS): Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has landed himself in yet another row as Tamil groups protested outside his Mumbai residence on Sunday, criticising the actor for campaigning for Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
According to reports, the protesters have claimed to continue their agitation until the actor apologies for his campaigning in support of Rajapakasa.
They have been shouting slogans against the superstar outside his residence.
The police, meanwhile, intervened and have detained about 15 people.
Khan is the first Indian actor to be roped in for a poll campaign in the country.
He was reportedly invited to participate in the election campaign by parliamentarian and Rajapaksa's son Namal.
Khan had recently visited Sri Lanka and had along with actress Jacqueline Feranandez campaigned for Mahinda Rajapaksa ahead of the presidential poll.
MDMK and DMK have strongly criticised the actor for the move. They said it's not just the issue of Tamils but that of Indian fishermen being arrested by the neighbouring country too.
The presidential election of Sri Lanka will take place on Jan 8.
