Murshidabad triple murder case: CID arrests prime accused Utpal Behra
Jiaganj, Oct 15 (UNI) Seven days after the entire family of Bandhu Prakash Pal (35), a teacher, his pregnant wife Beauty and their six-year-old son Angan were brutally murdered at their residence, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID ) on Tuesday arrested the main accused for his alleged involvement in the crime.
Utpal Behra, a mason by profession, was arrested from Sagardighi's Sahapur area of the district this morning, a senior police officer said.
According to police, Behra had paid money to Pal for two life insurance policies.
“Although Pal gave money receipt for the first policy, but he did not give me the receipt for the second. For the last few weeks, Pal and Behra used to quarrel over this matter. Pal had even insulted him, following which Behra decided to kill him," the police official added.
Police claimed Behera has confessed to the crime.
The CID, which took up the case on October 12, arrested prime suspect - Utpal Behera - a mason, and revealed that the motive of the crime was allegedly "badla"(revenge).
Police claimed they made a breakthrough in the case and added that the accused murdered the family to take revenge when the teacher did not deposit premiums (money) of the accused at the insurance office.
Soon after the murder came to light, the opposition BJP hinted a political motive behind the murders and said Pal was a BJP supporter and sort an appointment with the President and Union Home Minster to apprise them of the state's law and order situation.
Police said the three were eleminated within five minutes between 12.06 pm to 12.11 pm on Dasami.
Police said Utpal Behera, a resident of Sahapur of Sagardighi, had paid Rs 48,000 to Pal, who was an agent of an insurance company, but he could not produce the receipts.
Police traced the clues and finally arrested Utpal who confessed to committing the triple murder.
The milkman, who delivered milk to the Pal's house, had seen Utpal rushing out of the house.
Police said the murder had no link to politics.
