Nagaland Governor appoints T R Zeiling as CM after Liezietsu fails to turn up for floor test

| | Jul 19, 2017, at 08:46 pm
Kohima, Jul 19 (IBNS) : Nagaland Governor P B Acharya on Wednesday appointed T R Zeiling the new Chief Minister remvoing Shurhozelie Liezietsu, who failed to turn up for the floor test to prove majority in the House, reports said.

According to reports, the Governor has invited Zeiling to take oath at 3 pm on Wednesday itself only hours after Leizietsu failed to appear in the Assembly to prove majority.

The Governor  had asked Liezietsu to prove majority after his predecessor Zeliang claimed he has the support of 47 MLAs of the Nagaland People's Front in the 59-member House.

Zeliang was present in the  House with his followers when the Speaker said the proceedings  would be reported to the Governor.

Earlier, the Kohima bench of the Gauhati High Court dismissed the CM’s plea to stay the Governor’s directive asking him to go through a floor test and only deferred the process by a few days.

Zeliang had to resign  in February following protests over holding of urban local bodies election with 33 per cent reservation for women.

He is now enjoying the support of four  BJP legislators and Nagaland BJP president Visasolie Lhoungu besides many party MLAs in the intra-party tussle for the power.
