Narada sting: Calcutta High Court directs to keep raw footage in bank locker until next hearing

Kolkata, Apr 19 (IBNS): After receiving the unedited footage of Narada News sting operation, the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday directed to keep the video in a nationalized bank's locker until the next hearing in this case, which is scheduled to be held on Apr 27.
Earlier on Apr 12, a division bench of the Calcutta High Court, comprising of Chief Justice Manjulla Chellur and Justice Arijit Banerjee, set up a three-member committee, comprising of Calcutta High Court's registrar Jayanta Kumar Kole, IG of West Bengal Police Recruitment Cell Anil Kumar and CBI Anti Corruption Branch's SP Nagendra Prasad, to collect the raw footage of Narada News's sting operation from company's CEO Mathew Samuel in New Delhi.

The committee on Monday evening collected a pen drive, containing raw video footage of the sting, and a mobile phone, which was used to shoot the sting video, from Mathew Samuel in New Delhi and submitted those before the division bench on Tuesday.

The High Court on Tuesday observed that the matter must be investigated properly and in a fast pace as the sting operation footage created a impact on the society.

"Even if the footage is two years old, should not the accused be penalized?," Chief Justice Manjulla Chellur said while observing the case.

Since Mar 14, news Portal- Narada News- released several sting operation footage, where the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders, ministers, MPs and MLAs were exposed while taking bribes.

As many as three Public Interest Litigations (PIL), demanding the CBI and ED joint probe into the matter, were filed before the High Court. The next hearing date in this case has been set on Apr 15.

Meanwhile, denying its involvement in this matter and claiming the videos were doctored, the TMC has already announced to conduct an internal probe into the case.
